How to Upholster Boat Seats

Summertime is the time for basking in the sun and relaxation. What better way to relax than spending a day on the water boating? If your old boat seats have seen better days, then read on to see how you can give them new life by upholstering them with new fabric.

Things You'll Need

• Marine grade fabric or vinyl
• Foam (optional)
• Staple gun
• Staples

Instructions

1. Determine what type of fabric you want for your boat seats. Fabric stores carry limited amounts of vinyl and usually do not carry marine grade fabrics. You would have to special order it from a marina or you could likely find it online. Check with your local fabric store to see what they have in stock. A thick vinyl will do fine and most fabric stores keep it in stock in a few different colors, such as black, white or blue.

2. Remove the seats from the boat. Turn the seats upside down and remove the fabric by removing the staples from underneath. Keep the fabric to use as a pattern for the new seat covers.

3. Lay the fabric down on a large flat surface and lay the old fabric face down on top. Cut the new fabric by tracing around the edges of the pattern. Attach the new fabric to the seats using a staple gun, stapling it to the underneath side of the seats. Replace the seats back into the boat.
