How to Trap a Raccoon in Timber
Raccoons are a pest in many timber areas. Whether you are trying to relocate them from your area, or if you are trying to catch and kill them, you just need an area with fallen timber, a trap with bait, and some patience. Having the fallen timber helps corner the raccoon in the trap.

1
Make sure you check your state laws for trapping raccoons, as some have regulations and others do not. Also, some states require you to release the raccoon, and some require you to humanely kill it if trapped. It is important to know these ordinances for your own safety.

2
Find an area with fallen timber, most ideally, two to three fallen timber pieces stacked around each other. If possible, position one of the pieces facing straight toward you. Then, move another piece so the end of it is firmly up against the first piece, perpendicular, so there is no escape route between the two timber pieces. Place a third piece in the same position on the left side, perpendicular. It should resemble a square shape with one side open, where you will place the cage snugly.

3
Obtain a live trap (these can be found at hardware stores or online for around $50).

4
Bait the trap. Raccoons are not picky about food so you can bait them with many different things that are inexpensive. The best things include: cat food (preferably with a seafood flavor), peanut butter, tuna and sardines. Place the bait in the back of the cage where instructed.
-
5
Place the trap snugly up against the timber. This will help trick the raccoon into thinking it is in a natural habitat with means of escape. Make sure the bait is all the way in the back of the trap so the raccoon has to go all the way in. Wire the trap as directed in the trap's instructions.
-
6
Continue to check on the trap regularly, especially in the morning since raccoons are nocturnal. When you remove a trap with a raccoon, dispose of it accordingly, or release it in a proper area.
