How to Sharpen Sai

Sai are iron weapons with a middle point and two prongs that resemble the tip of a trident, though sai are much shorter. They are effective against long range weapons such as swords and spears as they can be used to catch and snap the blades. Sai can also be thrown like knives. Although sai were not traditionally sharpened, they can be sharpened in the same fashion as a knife.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Steel bar
      • 1

Hold the sai securely by the grip in your dominant hand.

      • 2

Put the tip of your sai at a 20-degree angle to the steel bar in your other hand.

      • 3

Starting at the top of the steel bar, scrape the sai down all the way to the bottom while maintaining the same angle.

      • 4

Flip the steel bar over and repeat Step 3.

      • 5

Continue rotating the bar until the point is sharpened to how you want it. Do not sharpen the side prongs.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Take your time. Moving your sai faster along the steel bar doesn't sharpen it more.
