How to Program a GM Keyless Entry System

Like nearly all automobiles made since the late 1990s, cars manufactured by GM feature keyless entry remote systems. These systems can be programmed at home, allowing you to bypass the fees that dealerships may charge. The remotes are capable of locking and unlocking doors and trunks and can sound the car's panic alarm.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in the driver's seat of your car, close all of the doors and the trunk, and place your key in the ignition.

    • 2

Press the unlock switch on your car door and hold it while you switch the key from off to on, and then to off and on again. Once you have switched the key on for the second time, release the lock switch on the door.

    • 3

Push and hold both the unlock and lock buttons on your GM keyless entry remote.

    • 4

Place your key in the ignition and start the car to complete the programming. Test your GM remote to see if the programming was successful.

    • 5

Repeat the steps for each remote to program up to four different remotes.
