The Oracle 10G software is a database system used by organizations to store large amounts of interrelated data. The program uses the relation system of database management, which means it connects different database entries based on how they are related to one another. While the Oracle database is built with operating systems such as Linux in mind there is a Windows Vista version available that you can download and install from the Oracle website.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open your computer's web browsing program by double-clicking on its desktop icon. Click on the address navigation tool bar and type in the address for the Oracle database website. Press the "Enter" key and wait for the web page to finish loading.

    Click on the "Products and Services" link located just below the Oracle logo on the upper left side of the website. Click on the "Oracle Database" link that will appear in the new menu below the products and services tab.

    Scroll down to the heading labeled as "Oracle Database Editions and Options." Click on the "Express Edition" link located at the lower right side of the area. Scroll down to the center of the new web page that will load and click on the "Download Oracle 10G Database" link.

    Click on the link labeled as "Download Oracle 10G Database for Microsoft Windows." Click on the radio button labeled as "I agree to the license agreement" and wait for the next web page to load. Click on the "x64" download link to indicate you want a version compatible with the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.

  5. Step 5

    Enter in your Oracle user name and password if you already have in, or instead click on the "Sign Up" button to create a user name. Type in your e-mail address and the password that you want to use and then click on "Confirm." Enter in your name, address, phone number, and company information in the corresponding text boxes and then click on "OK" to initiate the download.

    Wait for a new window to appear on the screen and then click on the "Save File" button. Close your web browser and click on the "Start" button at the lower left side of the desktop. Click on the "Computer" icon and navigate to the location where your downloaded files are saved. Double-click the Oracle installation file that you downloaded.

    Click on the "Allow" button when the Windows Vista operating system brings up a new window asking if you want to allow the program to run. Click on "Next." Click on the radio button marked as "I agree to the terms" and then click on "Next" again. Type the password that you want to use for the database into the "Password" text field and then click on "Next." Click on "Install" to finish the installation process.

Tips & Warnings
  • In order to use the Oracle 10g database program with the Windows Vista operating system your computer must have at least 512 megabytes of RAM and 1.5 gigabytes of hard disk drive space available.
