Use a Data Projector With a Desktop

A data projector gives you the flexibility to fill your presentations with big-screen media, or enjoy a movie in your home theater. There is not much in the way of you enjoying a big screen multimedia experience with the help of your desktop and projector: Connecting your data projector to your desktop computer requires only a couple of common computer cables that you can purchase at almost any electronics store.

Things You'll Need

  • VGA cable
  • USB cable 2.0 A to B
  • Universal power cord

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the computer monitor's power off and disconnect its VGA cable from the VGA port on the back of your computer.

    • 2

Connect the projector to the computer with your VGA cable--connect one end to the VGA port on the back of the projector and connect the other end to the port on the back of the computer.

    • 3

Secure both ends of the cable to each port with the screw-on heads of the cable.

    • 4

Insert the female end of the power cable into the power port on the back of the projector and plug the male end--the three-pronged end--into a power outlet.

    • 5

Plug the "A" end--the rectangular end of the cable--of the USB cable into a USB port your computer and plug the "B" end into the USB port on your projector.

    • 6

Power on the projector. Give it a minute to warm up and search for a source of data--it should find your computer at the VGA port and display your desktop.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have positioned your projector for viewing, you can download a copy of the USB drivers from your manufacturer's support page. Installing the USB drivers allows you to control your projector with a remote control.
