How to Draw Western Cowboy Boots

Cowboy boots have become a major fashion statement in recent years, particularly for women. This new craze, along with the timeworn image of the rustic cowboy in the deserts of the West, make it all the more important to learn to draw a cowboy boot well, and the devil is in the detailing.

Instructions

1. 
   Draw the back of the boot.

   Draw the back of the boot. Start at the top of the boot, curve your line around the back of the heel and include the heel of the boot.

2. 
   Draw the front of the boot.

   Draw the front of the boot, including only the leg and not the foot part. Include a small notch in the top of the boot, indicating where an extra leather strap will be developed in the drawing.

   Draw the foot of the boot.

   Draw the foot of the boot. Curve your line around the front and up above where you drew the heel and have it meet the back of the boot.

   Draw the rubber sole of the boot.

   Draw the rubber sole of the boot. The sole should go underneath the foot part of the boot, curving up to meet the point where the rightmost part of the heel meets the boot.

   Draw the general shapes that appear on the boot.

   Draw the general shapes that appear on the boot. Draw a rectangle at the top of the boot, completing the notch that you drew in step 2. Draw a seam down the side of the boot, originating from the notch. Also draw a line curving around the point where the foot and the leg part of the boot meet, with the front curving up slightly.

   Draw detailing at the top of the boot.

   Draw detailing at the top of the boot. This is a curve that follows the top edge of the boot and curves under the rectangular notch. The curve should have a notch upwards at the front of the boot.

   Color in the sole of the boot.

   Color in the sole of the boot. Draw an oval shape on the heel of the boot, for decorative purposes.

   Draw designs on the leg of the boot.

   Draw designs on the leg of the boot. Use zigzagged U-shapes along the top of the boot, and V-shapes down the side of the boot. Color in the shapes.

   Draw flames on the foot part of the boot.

   Draw flames on the foot part of the boot. Add a flame design to the back of the boot, and on the tip of the foot. Color it in.
