How to Make a Jewelry Armoire

Create a unique jewelry armoire for a gift for someone special. This gift will help her organize her jewelery so she may find it easily. This project will take a bit of time; however, the gift will be cherished for decades to come so it is a project well worth the investment of time.

• Hinges
• Paint or varnish

Instructions

1. Create a design for a jewelry armoire. Write down the exact measurements for the piece of furniture. An average width for a jewelry armoire is around thirty inches wide and thirty-five inches tall. The design might include three or four drawers for jewelry. The size of the front door might be twenty-six inches wide and thirty-three inches tall. The four legs will be nine inches high and three inches wide.

2. Purchase wood to use to make this item. Use a power saw or standard saw to cut the wood to the sizes needed. Then use sandpaper to smooth down any rough edges. Wipe off the wood to remove any loose debris.

3. Use small nails to hammer together the back and two side panels. Use at least five nails on each area where the wood panels connect. Attach the two side panels on the front of the armoire that will connect to the front door. Use at least five nails to attach each panel. Next, attach metal runners to the inside to hold the three to four inner drawers. Hammer together the inner drawers and then slide them into the sliders inside the armoire.

4. Attache hinges to the front panels of the armoire. Use two hinges on the right side of the front door. Then, attach the front door via the hinges. Swing the door several times to ensure it fits smoothly and that the hinges work properly. Next, use nails to attach the legs. Use at least four nails on each leg to attach it securely.

5. Sand down any rough spots on the armoire. Wipe all debris off the wood. Then apply either paint or varnish. Let the first coat dry at least overnight before applying a second coat of paint or varnish. If desired, then add decorative touches like words, flowers, hearts, or someone's initials with a stencil and stencil paint.
