How to Block Chat Websites

Online chatting is a great way to pass the time. You can chat with family and friends, and meet people who may become lifelong acquaintances. But as fun as chatting can be, many chat sites have content that's not suitable for youngsters and some can be pose dangers for the unwary. Chat sites are hunting grounds for online predators. Some have file-sharing capabilities that could spread viruses and other forms of malware embedded in seemingly harmless files. To maintain Internet security, you can block any chat sites that appear suspicious.

1. Open your web browser and click on "Tools"; then click on "Internet Options."

2. Click on the "Security" tab.

3. Click on "Restricted Sites."

4. Click on "Sites."

5. In the box that says, "Add this website to this zone," enter the web address of the specific chat site that you want to block. The best way to accomplish this is to navigate to the website, copy the address and past it in the "Add this website" box. It is better to copy and paste, as you will avoid typing errors.

6. Click on "Add" to put the website on the blocked websites list; then click on "Close." When you exit the "Internet Options" screen, the chat website will be blocked.
