Instructions

    • 1

Save some of the fresh corn cobs at the end of the season. It's better to use a few cobs at the end of the season because the corn growth has already slowed down. Make sure none of the cobs have bad spots or worms.

    • 2

Place the cobs on paper towels, and put in a cool area to dry out. Let the cobs dry completely, which will be approximately 2 weeks. When they are dried and hard, proceed to the next step.

    • 3
      Seed Corn Kernels

Clean the cobs by removing the husks and silk. A lot of the kernels will fall off, but break the corn kernels off the cob by running your hand down the cob to remove them. They will just break off. Do not cut them. Keep rubbing until you have quite a few corn kernels.

    • 4

Place all the loose corn kernels in a freezer bag. Remove the air, seal the bag, and date the bag. Place the bag in the freezer. These will now be the seed corn for next year's garden. By placing them in the freezer, it makes them dormant, but alive.

    • 5

Remove the bag of corn from the freezer the day of planting. Do not do this before so they won't start sprouting. Plant as usual.
