Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital images
  1. Step 1

Launch the Adobe Photoshop software. Click "File" and select "New" to create a new canvas in Photoshop.

  2. Step 2

Open a digital image from your photo library in Adobe Photoshop and paste into the canvas. Alternatively, click "Layer" in the top menu bar and select "New Fill Layer." Choose a dark to medium-dark color and click "OK."

  3. Step 3

Click the Rectangular Marquee Tool and create a rectangular shape the length and width that you want to make the Scotch Tape.

  4. Step 4

Click "Layer" in the top menu bar and select "New Layer," then fill the rectangular section with a light beige color.

  5. Step 5

Add serrated edges to the rectangular shape to mimic the edges of a cut piece of Scotch Tape. Click the Polygonal Lasso Tool and draw a small triangle-shaped section on the left edge of the rectangle. Delete, and repeat until the left edge of the rectangle is jagged. Repeat on the right side.

  6. Step 6

Select all the layers in the right-hand Layer palette. Right-click the layers and select "Merge" from the pop-up menu in Photoshop.

  7. Step 7

Add texture to the Scotch Tape you're making in Photoshop. Click the Photoshop brush tool and change the color to white. Carefully drag the brush across the edge of the rectangular layer. Click "Edit" and select "Fade Brush" to fade the brush by 15 percent. Continue brushing the rectangle to further make the Scotch Tape look realistic.

  8. Step 8

Click the arrow-shaped icon in the Tools palette. Drag the Scotch Tape you've made anywhere on the canvas, such as on the corners of the image you've imported (Step 2) to make it look like the image is being held up by tape. Repeat Steps 2 to 7 to make more Scotch Tape pieces to add to the other corners of the image for a realistic layout.
