Riders want tires that fit their motorcycles, look good, perform well and don't cost an entire paycheck. The more you know about what to look for in tires, the better equipped you'll be to make the right buying decision.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Compare tires and their ratings online. Visit websites like the Motorcycle Superstore, which have a large inventory of tires for better comparison (see Resources). This site also offers a customer service link for shoppers who have questions about the different brands.

  2. Step 2

Check the owner's manual to get the appropriate size of the tires. If you plan to make size modifications, check with the manufacturer about any safety stipulations or warranty restrictions.

  3. Step 3

Determine the appropriate type of tire style. The three main categories include racing, sport and touring. The style will depend on how you plan to use the bike. Racing tires are designed for speed, sport for traction and touring for sustainability over long distances.

  4. Step 4

Look at the materials used to make the tires. Softer compounds will provide much better traction while riding. They will not last as long, however. Harder materials last longer and are good choices for touring bikes.

  5. Step 5

Motorcycles will be categorized by S, H, V and Z grading to determine their speed abilities.

  6. Step 6

Compare the prices of the motorcycle tires, and what's included. Does the price include a warranty? What about mounting?
