How To Make Joker Clothing
When it comes to Halloween costumes, the Joker is a popular choice. You can go for the classic Joker of Batman comic books or you can opt for the updated version that appeared in "The Dark Knight" movie. Either way, you can piece together Joker clothing from items at the thrift store and craft some final touches for special effects.

Look at reference material. You will notice that the Joker, in both the classic and contemporary versions, dresses snappily, in tailored pieces. Matching pieces are not as important as a good fit.

2
Begin with the basic outfit. You can use a T-shirt and then sew on hexagon-shaped fabric or patches in green, purple or white to make Joker's signature hexagon shirt. The size of the patches should be large, at least 4 inches square. The pants can be plain black leggings, velvet dressy trousers or striped stockings for the optical illusion effect of the 1970 television show's Joker.

Add the top layer. A fitted purple velvet coat with tails adds the ideal Joker panache. Look for a tie in bright purple, pea green or a bold, graphic print. Thrift stores are the ideal spots to locate these items.

4
Accessorize the look with black boots, hopefully with pointy toes. However, a pair of black leather, lace-up shoes will also suffice. Long purple gloves are classic.

5
Attend to your hair, as this is the make-or-break element of being identified as the Joker. You can either tease your hair, spray in green dye and spray it in place, or you can go with a wig. Your choice is to buy a costume shop wig, typically at a high price, or to purchase a blond or white hair wig that you spray green.

Tips & Warnings
Have a friend do your makeup for the perfect final effect. Remember to get a plastic version of the Joker's knife, his weapon of choice.
Do not make the look too formal. The overall effect should be more regal than corporate, with a big dose of campy.
