How to Make a Gun Holster
A custom-made holster provides a tremendous amount of comfort and personalized detail for any gun aficionado. Crafting a gun holster allows you to choose the materials that best suit your particular firearm and your body. In sharp contrast to the one-size-fits-all holsters, a personalized holster can be designed to fit any part of your body: under the arm, on the hip or hidden in the small of the back. A few choice details can make the holster a perfect companion piece to any firearm.

1
Trace the basic shape of your holster using the contours of your firearm as a frame of reference. This can be done by placing the gun on a sheet of graph paper, then tracing the holster around it. Be sure to trace a mirror image as you will be sewing two pieces of leather together to make the holster.

2
Cut out your graph paper template and place it on your choice of soft leather. Carefully pin the template to the leather with a set of pins or a few dabs from a glue stick.

3
Cut the leather to the shape of your template, using the utility knife. You should now have two mirrored pieces of leather to work with. Choose one piece to make a belt loop incision---this will allow you to fit it to a belt.
-
4
Fit the two leather pieces together. Using a leather-piercing needle and thread, sew them together. This is your basic holster.
-
5
You can form-fit the holster to the gun's trigger or barrel by stitching the leather accordingly.

Tips & Warnings
Most gun aficionados prefer a square-shaped holster. Most gun aficionados prefer little molding around the gun so it can be pulled out quickly in emergencies.
When tracing your firearm, be sure it is unloaded and the safety in activated. When using a utility knife, cut slowly and remain focused.
