Things You'll Need:
- White fabric pencil
- Crochet hook (N)
- Novelty yarn (fur or sequined)
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Flat lace
- Straight pins
-
Step 1
Lay the denim skirt out flat on a work surface and carefully map out a pattern for the crochet embellishment. Making a loopy, wandering line that meanders around the entire length of the skirt (both front and back) is recommended. When you feel confident about your plan, carefully draw the design onto the skirt with a fabric pencil.
-
Step 2
Pull the novelty yarn out of the center of the skein to begin using it. Make a small circle of yarn at the end of the yarn length. Hold the circle of yarn in your fingers so that the circle rests on top of the yarn tails underneath. Insert the crochet hook into the circle of yarn and pull the yarn tail through the yarn circle. Pull the yarn tight around the crochet hook to secure the slip knot onto the crochet hook.
-
Step 3
Hold the crochet hook in your dominant hand and place a loop of yarn from the skein over the index finger of your non-dominant hand. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook from the back to the front with your non-dominant hand.
-
Step 4
Grab the wrapped yarn with the hook and pull it through the first loop on the hook to make the first chain.
-
Step 5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to create a chain that is approximately 10 feet long. Keep your yarn tension consistent so that the chains are all the same size. When your chain is long enough, clip the yarn and pull the last chain tight to secure the end of the chain.
-
Step 6
Thread the needle with a 18-inch length of thread that matches the yarn chain. Tie an overhand knot at the end of the thread.
-
Step 7
Stitch the crocheted chain to the jean skirt along the lines you drew in Step 1. Make small tacking stitches along the chain, approximately 1/2-inch apart. Tie a knot on the underside of the skirt and clip the thread to finish.
-
Step 1
Lay a piece of lace onto a flat work surface and carefully cut around the designs that make up the lace. Often lace is made out of flowers or leaf shapes or other discernible patterns. Choose the patterns from the lace that you would like to focus on and carefully cut out as many lace pieces as you desire for your skirt.
-
Step 2
Lay the cut lace onto the skirt and determine the placement. Experiment with different ideas until you have a placement that you like. Pin the lace to hold it securely.
-
Step 3
Thread the needle with a 12-inch length of thread that matches the lace. Tie an overhand knot at the end of the thread.
-
Step 4
Insert the needle up from the underside of the skirt into the edge of a piece of lace. Carefully take small stitches to tack the lace down securely to the jean skirt. Tie a knot on the underside of the skirt and clip the thread when the first lace piece has been attached.
-
Step 5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to sew all of the lace pieces to the jean skirt.
