How to Make Duct Tape Jewelry

Making jewelry from duct tape is an easy craft project for children of all ages. You can make rings, necklaces, belts and bracelets from colorful and versatile duct tape. Add a hook and loop fastener and you can wear your jewelry more than once. Follow these simple step-by-step instructions to make a colorful braided duct tape bracelet. You can adapt these instructions to make a braided necklace or ring by making your strips longer or shorter.

Things You'll Need

• Measuring tape
• 3 colors of duct tape
• Craft knife or scissors
• Self-adhesive Velcro

Instructions

1. Measure around your wrist to determine the size of bracelet you need. The braided duct tape bracelet can fit like a cuff or be as loose as you like.

2. Make double-sided strips of duct tape for your jewelry. Cut one strip of duct tape in each of the three colors to the desired length. Lay each piece sticky-side up. Cut three more pieces to fit the desired length and place them face-down on top of the previously cut pieces. You can make your double-sided strips the same color or different colors as you like.

3. Cut ½-inch strips lengthwise in each of the double-sided duct tape strips. You can make at least four bracelets from one 2-inch-wide strip of duct tape.

4. Cut a 1½-inch section of duct tape and lay it sticky-side up. Lay three of the strips you cut in Step 3 side by side with the tips touching half of the duct tape. Fold over the remaining half to create an edge for your jewelry.

5. Braid the three colorful strips almost to the end. Leave a 1-inch section so you can make another edge. Cut another 1½-inch strip of duct tape and fold it over the end of your braided bracelet just as you did in Step 4.

6. Cut a piece of self-adhesive Velcro to fit the ends of your duct tape jewelry. Attach one side of the Velcro to each edge of your bracelet. This removable enclosure will allow you to wear your duct tape bracelet as often as you'd like.

Tips & Warnings

• Cut wavy strips of duct tape to alter the style of your jewelry. You can find duct tape in a variety of colors at your local home improvement store.

• Do not leave scissors or a craft knife unattended.
