How to Recover Deleted Files From the Recycle Bin

When a file is deleted in Microsoft Windows, it goes to the Recycle Bin. This allows for the recovery of a file that was deleted by accident. The file can easily be recovered by restoring it back to its previous location.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Microsoft Windows
  1. Step 1

    Minimize any open windows so the desktop is visible. Locate the Recycle Bin. It is usually visible on the desktop.

  2. Step 2

    Double-click the Recycle Bin to open it like a folder.

  3. Step 3

    Review the list of files in the Recycle Bin and locate the one that you would like to restore.

  4. Step 4

    Right-click the desired file.

  5. Step 5

    Select Restore from the menu that appears. The file is now restored to its previous location.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure not to delete a file from the Recycle Bin unless you're absolutely sure that you will not need it again. It may not be possible to recover it.
