Hanging stuff on a cement wall is simple with the right supplies. Brick hooks and Command Strips make the job as easy as hanging stuff on drywall. If you are hanging something that isn't too heavy, Command Strips may work best. If you have something like a heavy mirror or piece of art, use brick hooks.

Command Strips

Step 1

Pay attention to the weight requirements on the packaging. Command Strips use hook and loop technology to attach the item to the wall hanger and a special removable adhesive to stick each piece to the wall and to your items.

Step 2

Attach two hook and loop sections together, one for the wall and one for your stuff. Peel the protective backing from one side of the strip and attach it to the back of your stuff. More than one strip may be required for level hanging and to distribute the weight. Place as many strips as you need on the back of your items.

Step 3

Determine where you want to hang your items on the cement wall. Remove the protective backing from the strip that will attach to the wall. Press your stuff against the cement wall firmly and hold for at least 90 seconds. Follow the instructions on the Command Strips packaging to determine how long to press your stuff against the cement wall.

Step 1

Place the hook against the concrete wall where you plan to hang your stuff. It's better to insert the hooks into the mortar joint if you can, but these hooks will also go into the cement block. Mark the spots for the nail holes. Remove the hook.

Step 2

Drill two pilot holes for the nails on the spots that you marked in Step 1. A masonry bit drilled at a 45-degree angle is the correct way to start your holes.

Step 3

Replace the hook and hammer the nails into the starter holes to attach the hook to the cement wall. Hang your stuff.
