How to Draw Metal Letters

Metal letters appear in shop signs, advertisements, and on awards or medals; they also appear in art. Though there are many ways to depict metal in a drawing, using bolts, sharp three-dimensional lines and drawing spots where the light is reflected all indicate a metal object.

Instructions

  1. Drawing a Metal A

    • 1
      Draw a triangle.

Draw a triangle. Have one point of the triangle facing up, and a horizontal base of the triangle. Try to make the sides as evenly lengthened as possible.

    • 2
Draw lines parallel to the left and right side of the triangle.

Draw a line parallel to the left side of the triangle, marking the left side of the capital A. On the right side of the triangle, draw a line parallel to it, followed by a smaller parallel line.

    • 3
Draw another line from the left side, creating a diamond shape. Draw two lines outward from the top and right corner of the triangle.

Draw a line paralleling the left side of the triangle that is the same size as the smaller parallel line on the right side of the triangle. Have these two lines intersect, creating a diamond in the center of the triangle. Color this in.

At the top of the triangle, draw a line pointing diagonally up and rightwards. Draw a parallel line of the same length, starting from the bottom right corner of the triangle.

    • 4
      Draw the bolts.

Draw small circles, lining up on either side of each line, and at all the corners of the pieces of metal. These are bolts, and the drawing of an A should begin to take on an industrial sheet-metal, modern design.

    • 5
Draw ripples, reflections of light, and shade on the A.

Draw some slivers and wider blob-shapes on the A, indicating ripples in the metal or points where light reflects off it. Add a few lines on the right side of the A at the base, to indicate a shade spot.

    Drawing a Metal B

    • 6
Draw a rectangle and divide the space with a vertical and a horizontal line.

Draw a tall rectangle. Draw a vertical line, parallel to the left side of the rectangle, making it look like a book with a thick binding. Divide the space to the right of this evenly, with a horizontal line.

    • 7
Draw nine squares on the top right and lower right square. Fill in the center one on each.

Draw two vertical lines in the top right square, creating three even columns. Divide the column with two narrow horizontal lines, so there are now nine squares on top. Color in the center square. Follow the same instructions for the bottom square.

    • 8
      Draw the bolts.

Draw circles in the corners of each box. These are bolts, to give the appearance of a metal B sculpture, fastened together.

    • 9
Draw a parallelogram that points up and rightwards, coming from the right side of the square.

Draw lines going diagonally up and rightwards, coming from the top right and bottom left of the rectangle. Connect both of these lines.

    • 10
Draw a parallelogram that points up and rightwards, coming from the top of the square.

Draw a line pointing up and rightwards from the top left of the square, and connect it to the line coming from the top right of the square. This is the top of the three-dimensional B. Add bolts to the corners of the side and top of the B.

    • 11
Add shading, and small vertical slivers along the metal B.

Add shading, and small vertical slivers along the metal B. This should create a metal-looking texture and show points where the metal B is hit with light.
