How to Make Low Calorie Margarita Mix
Lets face it, margaritas are the quintessential summer drink. If you are on a diet they can be your worst enemy.. and they are oh so tempting. Here is a simple way that you can make a low calorie version of margarita mix. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Splenda calorie free sweetener or stevia sweetener
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup fresh lime juice
- 2 cups water
- storage bottle

In a medium sized sauce pan, pour the two cups of water and heat until simmering. Add 2.5 cups of splenda or an equal amount of stevia sweetener. Stir this until completely dissolved.

Reduce heat to medium/low and let the mixture simmer until slightly reduced. Remove from heat and let it sit until completely cool.

Mix the simple syrup, lemon and lime juices until thoroughly combined. Taste the mixture to see if it is too tart or too sweet. There should be a balance. For an added kick, you can also add kaffir lime leaves or a little bit of orange juice to the mix. If you use kaffir lime leaves make sure you strain them out before making a margarita!

If you would like a thicker mix, corn starch can be mixed in with the water before heating and before adding the sugar. Store the sweet and sour mix in the fridge in a tightly sealed container until desired use.

This is not the same as store bought sweet and sour, but it has a wonderful flavor and will allow you to enjoy a margarita with everyone else.
