Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

First and foremost, you should know what your choices are in cleaning methods and know which one is the one you want to choose. While there are several types of carpet cleaning available on the market (dry cleaning, absorbent pad cleaning, encapsulation, dry foam and steam cleaning) the NUMBER ONE recommended method for cleaning your carpet by the Carpet & Rug Institute and over 40 carpet mills is “hot water extraction” or more commonly referred to as “steam cleaning."

  2. Step 2

Once you know what your options are, you can begin to talk to friends and family for recommendations. There are places on the web that offer consumer reviews for local as well as nationwide carpet cleaners such as Yahoo and Google. You can also do a search online by using your favorite search engine and type in “carpet cleaning” and then the name of your city (an example of a good search would be “carpet cleaning cape coral” or whatever the name of the city is you reside.

  3. Step 3

Get some estimates! Find out the overall price and what is extra. What chemicals will be used? Do they offer deodorizers for homes with pets? How long does the process take and to dry? Will they move the furniture? What are their guarantees?

  4. Step 4

You will want to insure that the chemicals that are used are environmentally friendly and safe for you, your children and your pets. Many carpet cleaners will say they their products are environmentally friendly when in fact, they're not. Ask to see the container they are using to mix your cleaning solution prior to spraying the product on your carpeting.

It is very important to know who is coming into your home. Make sure that you know the history of the carpet cleaner as well and ask if background checks are done on the employees. Take steps to keep you and your loved ones safe

Tips & Warnings
  • Make certain that your carpet and tile cleaner has the appropriate insurance in the event that they ruin your carpeting or if one of their employees develops "sticky fingers" and walks away with your jewelry.
