Spot a Work-at-Home Scam

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but you need to be absolutely sure your time and money is safe when it comes to Work-At-Home opportunities. Many of them are scams, especially the ads and emails that bait you with easy money from very little work. Here are the steps to take to check the legitimacy of a work-at-home opportunity.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Suspicion
  1. Step 1

    -- Better Business Bureau --

Contact the Better Business Bureau to determine the status and background of the company in question.

  2. Step 2

    -- Up-Front Funds --

Look for up-front funds. Be suspicious whenever money is required up front for materials, products, or information.

  3. Step 3

    -- Research --

Do your own research into work-at-home opportunities. Go to your local library and use the “Work-at-Home Sourcebook” and any other resources that may be available to you.

  4. Step 4

-- Ask Mass Amounts of Questions --

Ask as many questions as you can think of for the company in question. Legitimate companies will have answers for you and will be glad to provide you with them!

  5. Step 5

    -- No Personal Information --

Do not give anyone your personal information when you are first inquiring about a company. Any information about you can come as a last step after the legitimacy of the company checks out.
