Step 1
When you dump out those stale half filled water bottles or dump out the water in your dogs water dish to refill it with fresh water, don't dump that old water down the drain or on the pavement! Pour it on the grass or water your plants with it. Make a conscious step to just lean out the back door and pour the old water on a rosebush or in the yard. Just because you won't drink it doesn't mean there aren't thousands of living organisms who will.

Step 2
When brushing your teeth fill a small cup with water and use that instead of leaving the faucet on full blast. You're supposed to brush your teeth at least 2 minutes so you're talking a gallon of water going right down the drain while you're just standing there. Fill up a cup with fresh water dip your toothbrush in to make it wet, brush your teeth, spit, then rinse your mouth out with the water in the cup. You can save over 15 gallons of water a week just by doing this simple step.

Step 3
Use waterless products. Waterless car washing products are a huge success and don't use any water. The best is Freedom Waterless Car Wash (www.freedomwaterlesscarwash.com) which is also 99% biodegradable and EPA certified. Up to 115 gallons of water can be saved in just one wash. Waterless pet shampoo is also fantastic. Competitors at national dog shows already use this great product to clean their pooches without the hassle, messiness and time it takes to use water. Plus it removes oil, dirt and dander and makes your pet smell great. Visit www.1800petmeds.com for several great brands available.

Step 4
Build a rain barrel that can catch rain water which is great for watering the grass, flushing toilets and all sorts of other things. Full directions are at www.youtube.com.

Step 5
Put a brick or two water bottles filled with sand in your toilet tank. This can save up to 10 gallons of water a day by not allowing so much water to fill your tank which can then be flushed. Speaking of toilets, don't use them as ashtrays or garbage cans. Dispose of your cigarettes and trash properly. Every flush of the toilet is 5 gallons of clean water wasted.
