Honor Service Members Past and Present

May is Military Appreciation Month, but you don't have to wait until Memorial Day to honor those who have served our country.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Just a willing heart to serve those who served!
  1. Step 1

The easiest way to honor our military is by recognizing them. If you see a soldier in uniform or a veteran (usually identifiable by a hat, jacket or bumper sticker), walk up, say thank you for their service, and shake their hand. This small gesture goes a long way!

  2. Step 2

Send a letter! If you don't know anyone serving in the military, visit AMillionThanks.org. It's fast, easy and will make a difference.

  3. Step 3

Send a care package! Several great organizations exist to help Americans support our troops in combat with care packages. Even if you don't know someone who is deployed, you can still send a care package. Join forces with Operation Gratitude, AnySoldier.com, Operation Care Package, Packages From Home, Operation We Care, The Kitchen Table Gang, Give2TheTroops.com, and more!

  4. Step 4

Donate your time. Volunteer for a local organization, like the American Legion. You can join thousands of volunteers from across the nation in placing flags on veterans' gravesites this Memorial Day.

  5. Step 5

Give money! The fastest way to support our service members is by donating your money to a worthy organization. There are many to choose from. I suggest the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. 100% of donations go to their efforts, including the construction of a huge facility in Bethesda Maryland which will provide treatment for Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Tips & Warnings
  • Warning! You may become addicted to sending letters and care packages to our troops overseas!
