If your unemployment benefits are soon to run out , don't panic! Anyone who receives unemployment benefits is completely eligible to apply for an extension on their benefits. Follow the simple steps below to get started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out your states policy on unemployment extensions. Your state's policy on this subject is dependent upon the unemployment rate and a few other factors. Call your local unemployment office and ask them if you are eligible for an unemployment extension.

  2. Step 2

Walk in to your local unemployment office . To find the unemployment office near you , log on to unemploymentoffice.net , this website will give you all of the locations in your area along with extra information regarding unemployment benefit extensions.

  3. Step 3

Submit the proper unemployment extension application. Some states require you to do this in person while other states will allow you to apply online or over the phone . Contact your local unemployment office for more specifics.

  4. Step 4

After you have submitted your extension application you will need to wait for a decision from the unemployment office . This may take 3-5 days depending on the particular office you applied at.

  5. Step 5

If your request for an extension was denied -- you may appeal . Walk in to the unemployment office and file an appeal form . The appeal process will take time and their is no guarantee of the government's decision being reversed. You can increase your chances of your appeal being granted by hiring an attorney , this of course will cost a bit of money. If your appeal is granted , your extension will be instated and you will continue to receive unemployment benefits.
