Baby bunnies are always fun to have around and almost everyone either wants one or has had one at some point in their life. The key to breeding rabbits is to first make sure you are doing it for the right reasons and second just make sure you know what you are doing.

The first step is to determine which rabbits should be breed together...

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Rabbit Buck
  • 1 Rabbit Doe
  1. Step 1

When you breed rabbits you should be working to improve the quality of the rabbits you are breeding. Take some time to have your rabbits judged to determine what strengths and weaknesses of each of them. You will want to have them judged two to three times by different people to get a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of your rabbits.

  2. Step 2

Once you have the rabbits judged you will want to decide what strengths you would like to improve on. If you have two rabbits that have good shoulders but one has a good mussel and the other has a small mussel you could breed them together to "set" the shoulders characteristic. After that you can work on other areas you would like to improve.

  3. Step 3

In addition to selecting breeding pairs based on the strengths and weaknesses of each rabbit it is said to be a good idea to select rabbits with common ancestors. This will allow you to "set" good characteristics and establish a gene line in your rabbits. This will also give you more predictable characteristics when you breed your rabbits.

  4. Step 4

Follow these steps it may take you a while to get a show quality rabbit but it is much more fulfilling to have a rabbit that you can be proud of than just an average farm rabbit. These rabbits will still make good pets but again if you are wanting to improve the quality of rabbits you are breeding you will need to work to make sure you are getting better and better looking rabbits each time you breed them.
