Hold a rabbit
Hold a rabbit

Rabbits are very soft and cuddly animals and many small children love to have them as pets. With this in mind it is very important to address the proper way to hold a rabbit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rabbit
  1. Step 1

Since rabbits have very delicate bones it is very important to make sure you are properly supporting or holding your rabbit at all times. Rabbits that are struggling can very easily break their own spines if they are not being properly held.

  2. Step 2

When picking up a rabbit you should first place one hand under the front of your rabbit in the chest area.

  3. Step 3

Now you will place your other hand under the rabbits back / bottom area.

  4. Step 4

Now you will gently lift your rabbit from the cage with both hands while holding the rabbit firmly but not squeezing.

  5. Step 5

Bring the rabbit close to your chest as quickly as you can to make sure he feels secure and will not become scared and start to struggle with you.

  6. Step 6

Make sure you continue to support the rabbits hind quarters while you are holding him against your chest.

  7. Step 7

If your rabbit is timid give him time to get use to you before picking him up. Also try holding him for several short sessions to give him a chance to learn to trust you while you are holding him.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never let a rabbit's body hang free, never lift by the stomach, and never pick a rabbit up by his ears.

on 11/5/2009 I doubt I will ever hold a rabbit, but at least I can observe if other people do it this way.
