A pool pump is a very important piece of equipment for maintaining the proper operation of your pool. The pump moves the water through the system so that it can be heated and filtered. If the pool pump has an air leak, it will not have a high enough flow rate to properly heat and filter the water in the pool. Fill a spray bottle three quarters of the way with moderately warm water.

Add one or two squirts of dish soap into the spray bottle. Tighten the spray bottle cap.

Spray the sudsy mixture on the inlet connections of the pool pump. Spray the mixture around the pump housing as well as the plumbing connections.

Watch the surface of the pump where your sprayed the mixture for bubbles starting to form. The formation of bubbles will identify air leaks. Use a grease marker to indicate where the air leak is occurring.
