How to Pluck Eyebrows or Legs with an Epilator

How to Pluck Eyebrows or Legs with an Epilatorthumbnail
Ice helps keep the pain of hair removal in check.

Hair removal is often a tedious, time-consuming task. Shaving must be done every day or so, while waxing is messy and expensive. An alternative to these methods is using an epilator. This mechanical hair removal device looks similar to an electric razor. Instead of shaving your hair, an epilator has coils that grab hold of many hairs at once and pulls them out like a wax treatment. This is often painful, but has advantages since hairs does not regrow for several weeks. An epilator works well once hairs are at least 1/4 inches in length.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Soap
    • Ice
    • Epilator
      • 1

Take a warm shower to open your pores. Use soap and cleanse your legs and eyebrow area to remove any dirt or oil.

      • 2

Put ice in a plastic baggy and run it along your legs and around your eyebrows to numb the area before you use the epilator. Use a towel to thoroughly dry the area.

      • 3

Turn the epilator on to the lowest speed and hold it in one hand while you hold your skin taut with your other hand. Gently and slowly brush the epilator across the skin of your legs and around the edges of your eyebrows, moving against the direction the hair grows as it pulls the hairs out. If necessary, go over the area more than once or change direction for a smooth finish.

      • 4

Using a pair of tweezers, complete the shaping of your brows by plucking hairs the epilator missed.

      • 5

Use cool water to soothe irritated skin.

    Tips & Warnings

    • An epilator often leaves skin looking red and puffy, so don't plan your hair removal right before you go out.

    • Exfoliate the treated area regularly to prevent ingrown hairs.

    • Avoid using lotions right after epilating. This may clog pores or irritate skin.

    • Always read the instructions that come with your epilator to see if it's safe for use on the face.
