One of the best advantages to Photoshop is the ability to remove unsightly blemishes, including stretch marks, from the subjects. Photoshop has a tool called the clone stamp, which can assist you in retouching your photos to perfection. The clone stamp tool takes a portion of a photo and transplants it onto a selected portion of the photo. The opacity can be adjusted, as can the brush size and hardness, which allows you to set the tool to cover faint to severe blemishes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photoshop CS or better
  1. Step 1

Open your image in Adobe Photoshop. Click "File," then "Open," then select your file using the dialogue box.

  2. Step 2

Select the clone stamp tool on the left toolbar by clicking on the rubber stamp icon.

  3. Step 3

Click on the arrow to the right of the brush image on the top toolbar. Using the drop-down box, set the brush size to an appropriate selection for your image by sliding the master diameter indicator. You should choose a size that is able to easily navigate over the stretch mark you are retouching.

  4. Step 4

Set the brush hardness to a moderate to very feathered selection using the hardness slider. The softer the brush, the less obvious your alteration will be. Close the dialogue box by clicking the arrow on the top toolbar.

  5. Step 5

Set the opacity of your clone stamp, located on the top toolbar, by clicking the arrow to the right of the opacity number. A lighter opacity means that more pressure or strokes may be needed to cover over the stretch mark.

  6. Step 6

Set the selection on the photograph. Choose an area of unblemished skin of reasonably similar tone and color, hold the "Option" key (Mac) or "Alt" key (PC) and click on the unblemished area.

  7. Step 7

Move the brush over the blemished area and click. You will see the mark begin to lighten as the program combines the selection area with the area being worked on. Repeat until the stretch mark is gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may find that selecting a light opacity and building up by going over the area several times gives a natural finish.
