Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze 1/2 a lemon into a plastic bowl. Add about 1 cup water and stir to blend. Dip a washcloth into the lemon/water mixture, and rub the cloth onto your skin. The acid in the lemon will break down the bonds of the self-tanning lotion, removing it from your skin. You can also rub a wedge of lemon against your skin.

    • 2

Exfoliate with a rich body scrub. Soak your body in warm water for about 15 minutes to soften skin, making it easier to scrub off the self-tanning lotion. Apply about a quarter-sized amount of body scrub onto a loofah, and vigorously massage all over your body. The exfoliating microbeads in the scrub will slough off the self-tanning lotion.

Combine 1 cup apple cider vinegar or white vinegar with 1/2 cup water. Stir to blend. Dip a clean washcloth into the mixture and massage over the self-tanner on your skin. Like the lemon, the acid in vinegar also helps to break down the active ingredients in the self-tanning lotion and lifts the dark color.

Make a baking soda paste to remove the self-tanning lotion. Mix about 2 tbsp. baking soda with 1 cup water. Stir to make a thin paste. Apply the baking soda paste onto a loofah, sponge or washcloth and rub onto your skin to lighten and remove the lotion.

Use a self-tanning lotion remover. There are several different brands on the market that are designed to lift the dark color and remove any last remnants of the lotion. (See Resources below for product information.)

Tips & Warnings

  • To make the removal process easier, soften your skin by soaking in warm water or applying some baby oil. The self-tanning lotion will come off more quickly. It may take a few applications of these treatments to remove the self-tanning lotion completely.
