Step 1
Take a sitz bath. A sitz bath involves soaking the area in warm water for a period of 15 minutes each day. This will help relieve any pain.
-
Step 2
Adjust your diet. Drink more water and add fiber-rich foods to your diet. You should drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water each day. Fiber-rich foods include bran cereals, whole-grain breads, berries, acidic fruits and green, leafy vegetables. This will help relieve constipation, which can hinder healing.

Step 3
Use an ointment on the anal fissure to treat the area. A newer method used by physicians is nitroglycerin ointment. This treatment has been found to improve blood flow and reduce pressure on the rectum. You will place a small amount on the anal fissure each day until it has completely healed. Remember to wash your hands before and after each application. You can also remedy an anal fissure with over-the-counter hydrocortisone ointments, such as Preparation H.

Step 4
Wipe with medicated pads. To avoid irritation and help remedy the anal fissure, you can purchase medicated wipes to use after bowel movements. Preparation H also manufactures these types of wipes.
