How to Make a Wooden Carrying Case
Whether carrying musical instruments or filling it with objects around your home, a wooden carrying case can hold just about everything, and allow you to keep some of your belongings in one place. Making one is a great project for woodworking beginners, who want to familiarize themselves with wood-cutting power tools. Here's how to make one.
Things You'll Need
- One sheet 4' x 8' x 1/2" plywood
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Saw (table saw, jigsaw or handsaw)
- Sandpaper
- Drill with drill bits
- Screws (3 inch and 3/8 inch long)
- Wood stain
- Two 3-inch-wide hinges
- Handles
- Latches for closures

Measure out and mark two 9-inch by 12-inch wood panels from your hardwood.

Measure out and mark another four 8-inch long by 3-inch wide pieces and four 12-inch long by 3-inch wide pieces.

Saw out the pieces you marked in Steps 1 and 2.

Screw the 3-inch wide boards onto the 12-inch edges at the edges and in the middle using the 3-inch screws. Do this for all of the 12-inch long sides.

Stain and paint your wooden pieces. You should have two halves of a box.

Pick up a set of handles and a latch at a craft store. They should come with a set of plates to screw into the box.

Center one handle on the long side of the box, on the side opposite from the hinge, and screw it in with the 3/8 inch screws. Do this for the other side.

Center your latch between the handles and screw on your latch on either side of the box. See Figure 4.
