How to Prepare Tap Dancing Shoes
Tap dancing is a fun way to get some exercise and add a little excitement to what would otherwise be just regular dancing. While professionally made shoes are the best choice if you or your child are going to take tap lessons, homemade tap shoes are a great alternative if you are just wanting to have a little fun around the house.

1
Lay the shoes you intend to make into tap shoes flat on a hard surface. Place a tack upside down on the flat surface next to them to make sure that the sole is thicker than the tack is long.
-
2
Wipe off the bottom of your shoes with a wet rag.
-
-
3
Hammer in thumbtacks into the toe of each shoe so that the first 1.5 to 2 inches of the toe is covered.
-
4
Hammer in thumbtacks into the heal of the shoe so that the ball of your heel is covered.
-
5
Carefully inspect the inside of your shoe with your hand to make sure that no tacks have poked all the way through the sole of the shoe to where your foot will be. There shouldn't be any tacks poking through because you tested the thickness of the soles in the first step, but it is always good to be safe.

Tips & Warnings
Semi-dressy shoes will look best. The shoes you use should lace or buckle so that they stay on your feet while you dance.
