Build a Lease Consultant Resume

A property manager hires a leasing consultant to rent apartment units, coordinate leasing agreements and guarantee maximum occupancy in an apartment community. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook (2008-2009 edition), "the employment of property, real estate, and community association managers is projected to increase by 15 percent during the 2006--16 decade, faster than the average for all occupations." As a result, the demand for more qualified leasing consultants requires applicants to create well-written resumes to apply and compete for these positions.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Work history
  • List of career achievements, awards and honors
  1. Step 1

Include contact information at the top of the resume. Before writing your leasing consultant accomplishments and experience, begin your resume with your name, telephone number, email address and current home address. When applying for a leasing consultant position, give your future employer the best methods to contact you for a job interview before listing your credentials.

  2. Step 2

Write a compelling career objective. A professional career objective will state clearly your career aspirations, goals and enthusiasm for the advertised leasing consultant position. If possible, include information about your specific interest in the company, including what skills and experience you would bring to the leasing consultant position.

  3. Step 3

Follow your career objective with a brief overview of your professional experiences. According to Anthony Barlderama's article on careerbuilder.com, entitled "Tame Resume Chaos," "managers and recruiters see hundreds of resumes each week and only spend between 10 and 20 seconds scanning each one." The professional experience section of your resume is important because it give managers and recruiters a brief snapshot of your career history in one paragraph. Include in your professional experiences, a reference to sales goals that you have met or exceeded in your career, your years of experience as a leasing consultant and any awards and achievements you have received.

  4. Step 4

List your work experience chronologically. Begin this section of your resume with your current job or your last employment position. Put the name of the company, followed by the dates of employment and your title on one line. Create a new paragraph listing the roles and responsibilities of the position. Start each sentence of the roles and responsibility section with an actionable word. Separate each employment task with a bullet point. Repeat this step with each work position you've held---that relates to the skills and expectations outlined in the leasing consultant job advertisement.

  5. Step 5

Create a section for your education and leasing consultant certifications. End your resume with any coursework and certificates obtained in the real estate and property management field. Start the list with the last degree or certification completed followed by a chronological list of any degrees, diplomas, honors or graduate coursework obtained in your career.
