You will find numerous benefits to making Internet phone calls. Calling over the Internet allows users to access low rates, avoid connection fees and communicate with excellent sound quality. To make calls over the Internet, you will have to download and use a software program. You will also likely need to set up a calling plan with the Internet call provider.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the software program you want to use. Popular choices include Yahoo Voice and Skype. Browse their calling rates and plans before signing up for an account.

  2. Step 2

Open the software program and select the call phone option from the program's main menu. You will be able to access your phone book or a keypad you can press the phone number of the person you want to call. Internet call programs require you enter the area code of the person you are calling, even if it's local.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Call" key to send the call through your PC. You can adjust the sound and press mute on the software's call menu. Once connected to the landline or mobile phone, you will hear the person speaking through your speakers.

  4. Step 4

Communicate by using a headset or your computer's built-in microphone. For making video Internet calls to other PC users, you can use a webcam and still communicate through the Internet call provider. When you are ready to disconnect the call, select the "End" key on your software menu.

Tips & Warnings
