Afghan blankets, or afghans as they are called, usually have trim added when the afghan is made. But, if for some reason yours does not have trim, you can simply add trim to accent and finish the afghan. With this process, you don't even need to know how to crochet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Afghan
  • Corresponding yarn color
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure

    Instructions

  1. Step 1

Determine the length you want the trim to be. It can be any length, though it needs to be at least 6 inches for a short trim.

  2. Step 2

Double the length measurement. For example, if you want the fringe to be 6 inches, cut lengths of yarn at 12 inches.

  3. Step 3

Determine how thick you want the fringe to be. Remember to account for folding each length in half in the next step. For example, for a thick fringe use 5 lengths, folded in half. This will give you 10 strings, which is fairly thick for fringe.

  4. Step 4

Gather the needed number of strings in your hand and slide all the strings through a hole on the edge along the top of the afghan. Fold the strings in half over the hole and make a slip knot with the strings. Tighten the slip knot, keeping all the strings even.

  5. Step 5

Repeat each fringe in the same manner, evenly across the top and bottom of the afghan.
