Things You'll Need:
- Afghan
- Corresponding yarn color
- Scissors
- Tape measure
-
Step 1
Determine the length you want the trim to be. It can be any length, though it needs to be at least 6 inches for a short trim.
-
Step 2
Double the length measurement. For example, if you want the fringe to be 6 inches, cut lengths of yarn at 12 inches.
-
Step 3
Determine how thick you want the fringe to be. Remember to account for folding each length in half in the next step. For example, for a thick fringe use 5 lengths, folded in half. This will give you 10 strings, which is fairly thick for fringe.
-
Step 4
Slip knotGather the needed number of strings in your hand and slide all the strings through a hole on the edge along the top of the afghan. Fold the strings in half over the hole and make a slip knot with the strings. Tighten the slip knot, keeping all the strings even.
-
Step 5
Repeat each fringe in the same manner, evenly across the top and bottom of the afghan.
