Ceiling fan lights are just like any other light fixtures in a home and sometimes they need replaced. Light fixtures do go bad. Replacing a light fixture in a ceiling fan is fairly easy, if you are comfortable working with your home electrical system.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn your home's power supply off by switching off the fuse to your home. Because you are working with the electrical system in the room in which your ceiling fan is located and the room directly above it, it's best if you just switch the power off to the entire house for safety.

  2. Step 2

Locate the lighting fixture on your ceiling fan. The fixture is between the ceiling fan blades and is connected to the circuit box. You will also notice that light bulbs are connected to the fixture. Remove the light bulbs by unscrewing them counterclockwise.

  3. Step 3

Remove the old lighting fixture by unscrewing any screws that are currently attaching it to the circuit box on your ceiling. At this point in the project, it is a good idea to have a friend to help you. While you are unscrewing the lighting fixture from the circuit box, your friend can help support the weight to prevent the fixture from falling and causing any unnecessary damage.

  4. Step 4

Look for the wires that your old fixture is connected to and remove them. Mark these wires, because you are going to attach your replacement lighting fixture in the exact same way.

  5. Step 5

Attach the wires from your new lighting fixture to the wires in your circuit box, and secure the lighting fixture to the circuit box using the hardware provided in your new light fixture kit. Wiring is color-coded. Simply match the colors on the light fixture wires with the wires in your circuit box. Twist them together or snap them into the circuit box.

  6. Step 6

Turn the power back on in your home, and flip the switch connected to the new lighting fixture that just replaced the old one.
