Expanded pool liners, also called stretch-to-fit liners, are used for above-ground pools that have a deeper section dug into the ground. The vinyl liner molds to the floor and sides of the pool to form a water-tight container. An expanded pool liner usually fits a pool up to 72 inches (6 feet) deep.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Unfold the liner and lay it in a warm, sunny area that is free of debris and sharp objects. The liner is easier to install if it is warm and more pliable.

  2. Step 2

Lay out the liner inside the pool, starting with the deepest end or section. Make sure the seams align with base of the pool walls.

  3. Step 3

Stretch out the liner to remove overlaps and large wrinkles.

  4. Step 4

Pull the liner up and over the pool walls so at least 18 inches of it overhangs the sides. Secure the liner with liner clips that snap onto the top rail of the pool wall.

  5. Step 5

Add a small amount of water to the deep end. Warm water is better than cold, because it helps mold the liner to the deeper area of the ground. If you have only cold water, add a small amount on a hot day and wait for the sun to warm the water. As the water heats, the weight will push the liner down, so it stretches into the deep end. Add more water as necessary until the liner fits securely against the ground.

  6. Step 6

When the deep end is full, add more water until several inches covers the other areas of the pool.

  7. Step 7

Smooth out the wrinkles. Some wrinkles are acceptable, but be sure to remove large or overlapping wrinkles.

  8. Step 8

Finish filling the pool with water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your product manual to make sure you buy the right size and type of pool liner. Ask for help; installing an expanded pool liner is easier with more than one person.
