How to Make Lace Envelopes
Lace envelopes lend a romantic air to sachets, jewelry storage and gift giving. You can make lace envelopes from lace yardage, panels or wide ribbon. The small pouches must be sewn to completion. You can tie or Velcro the flap closed to secure the contents. They will make lovely packages for bridesmaid "thank you" gifts or party favors.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Lay the small envelope template or pattern on to the wrong side of the lace piece and mark it with a pen.
-
2
Cut out the lace envelope shape with sewing scissors.
-
-
3
Pin the sides of the envelope with straight pins. Iron the sides with a medium hot iron to get a crisp fold.
-
4
Sew the sides together with tiny running stitches on the sewing machine or by hand. These tiny stitches are 1/8 to 1/4 inch long and run in a straight line.
-
5
Fold the edge of the flap under 1/4 inch and pin in place. Sew a running stitch along the end to give the envelope a finished look.
-
6
Cut two 4-inch or longer pieces of satin ribbon. Sew one end of one ribbon piece on to the center point of the flap bottom. Sew the second ribbon on the body of the envelope just under the flap point. Tie the ribbons into a bow to secure the envelope closed. You can sew or iron on small circular Velcro pieces for a closure in place of the ribbons.
-
7
Decorate the envelope flap by sewing on satin roses, a tassel or by adding a jewelry charm.

Tips & Warnings
Weave 1/4 inch wide ribbon through the lace, if the weave is wide enough, for an embellishment.
