Dust mites are small microscopic creatures that can live in your home. Dust mites cause allergies in many people and cause many allergy symptoms like coughing, sneezing, and itchy eyes. If you have allergies caused by dust mites it is important to learn how to get rid of dust mites and how to stop dust mites in your home.

  1. Step 1

    Stop Dust Mites By Knowing Where They Are
    Before you can stop dust mites and remove dust mites from your home you need to know where dust mites live. They live in many different places in your home and you will need to remove dust mites from everywhere to truly stop them. The main places where dust mites live are your bed and pillows, chairs and couches, carpets, curtains and drapes, and in stuffed animals. You must stop dust mites in all areas to stop dust mites.

  2. Step 2

    Cleaning To Remove Dust Mites
    In order to initially stop dust mites and remove them you should start by washing everything in hot water to start. This will initially kill many of the dust mites. Then you will want to vacuum everything, using a HEPA filter, that you can to remove the dead dust mites and remove any that remained through the washing. For anything that you can not wash or vacuum, direct sunlight kills dust mites instantly. Bring the item outside on a sunny day and the sun will kill and remove the dust mites.

  3. Step 3

    Preventing the Return of Dust Mites
    In order to stop dust mites for good, you need to regularly clean and dust specifically in the spots listed in step 1. Also, if you suffer from allergies add HEPA air filters in your home, expose areas to sunlight, and make sure to clean and vacuum regularly.
