Get Health Insurance Without an Employer

I used to think private health insurance was impossible to afford. I would fret over what I was going to do once my baby was born and I quit my job to stay home with her, but when I actually looked into it, private health insurance turned out to be very affordable! The following are my findings:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Good Health
  1. Step 1

First, you will want to decide exactly what kind of coverage will best meet your needs. For me, I knew I would need to make regular visits to the doctor for well baby visits, so I chose a plan with a high deductible, but only a $30 copay. My family is relatively healthy, so this is one way I was able to keep my monthly premium down.

  2. Step 2

Look online to compare health insurance prices for the type of coverage you are interested in. You might be surprised that you can find health insurance for around $100 per person per month! Also, talk to your tax accountant, but usually if you have to pay for your premium with taxed dollars, you can write it off. If you are self employed, you might also be able to write it off as a business expense!

  3. Step 3

Finally, look into Medi-Share (http://www.gohealthinsurance.com). It is an alternative to health insurance where Christians work together to meet each others needs like in the book of Acts.
