Ride your bike.
Ride your bike.

It is national ride your bike to work week. As I got the kids off to school this morning it was more apparent then ever that people were taking this day to heart this year. And who can blame them with the slow economy we could all stand to save some cash here and there. Riding your bike to work will help out in more ways then you can ever imagine.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bike
  • Planned path
  • Helmet
  • Determination
  1. Step 1
    Get Fit.
    Get Fit.

    Keep Fit.

Not a jogger and you just don’t have the time to keep in shape with all the demands of the day? Keep it light and simple. A bike ride to work can save you the trouble of having to plan out a work out. If kept up to a reasonable pace you could end up losing weight here. No one wants to show up to the office hot and sweaty but what is keeping you from turning the heat up on the way home. You could not only save the time of going to the gym but also $30 - $100 for a gym membership that you will never use.

  2. Step 2
    Save the Planet.

    Save the Environment.

Emissions from cars especially those ones that have been in service for a while can really hurt the environment. While all of us would love to run out and buy a brand new car that cares we don’t all have the resources for that. You can do your part by riding your bike even one day a week to help out and encourage others to talk the challenge.

  3. Step 3
Don't let your car empty your pockets.

    Save the Car.

Every mile you put on that car is one day closer to death. The stop and go traffic of a morning commute is no exception to this. Sometimes it is not the miles that are hard on your car but the run time. Sitting in traffic for long periods of time can kill your engine. You could save tons here in the repair and tune up costs of your car. By driving less it will lead to longer times between those dreaded trips to the auto store or garage.

  4. Step 4
    Save on gas.
    Save on gas.

    Save Fuel.

Who wants to pay $3 a gallon? Not I said the consumer! If you make it a point to only buy gas when you need it and to ride your bike instead for the shorter trips it will create a larger buildup on the supply of gas and less demand. Any 8th grade economy class taught us all that as the supply goes up, and the demand goes down, then so does the cost. This relates to fuller gas tanks with thicker wallets all around.

Tips & Warnings
  • Even riding only on the sunny days will save you money.
  • Keep with it and you will see the difference in a short time.
  • Where a helmet.
  • Be aware and follow the rules of biking for your local city.
