How to not sway in the golf swing can be a tedious endeavor. The first step is to increase awareness that you are swaying and how much.
-
2
Place a golf club shaft or a long thin stick or umbrella an inch behind your back foot. The sway stick should be almost touching the side of your rear or back hip.
-
3
Make a back swing and determine how much you tend to sway in the golf swing by how difficult it is to swing without hitting the club or stake with your back hip.
-
4
To correct your sway place your feet together and rotate your shoulders and hips until you can complete your back swing without swaying into the stick.
-
5
You should feel as though you are pushing the handle of the club as far away from you as possible while turning around a fixed axis while avoiding a sway into the stick.
-
6
Your weight should start evenly on both feet and as you swing the club back transfer to your back foot without any sway to avoid hitting the stick.
-
7
Once you can make a golf swing with out any sway into the golf shaft or stick gradually spread your feet apart continuing to make back swings until you can perform this move with a normal stance with your feet shoulder width apart.

Tips & Warnings
A good swing thought to avoid a sway is to turn your shoulders and back hip behind you to initiate the back swing.
Have a partner tack the butt of the club and place it against your back hip to help you resist swaying and stay on the ball as you make your golf swing.
