    Take a look at what you already have on hand. There's a good chance that you will have foods that need to be used up quickly to avoid waste. Make sure to examine produce and meats in your freezer. Try to inorporate these foods into your meal plan or as snacks for the coming week.

    Decide what meals you would like to serve. In order to be sure that you are making healthy choices all day, you'll want to plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When planning dinner, keep in mind how you might use leftovers the next day. For example, leftover steak can be chopped and combined with vegetables for a quick stir fry dinner. You might also want to take a look at your schedule for the coming week and plan more complicated dishes for your least busy days.

  3. Step 3

    Now that you know what needs to be used up and what you would like to serve for the following week, it's time to make your grocery list. Look over your meal plan and make sure that you have written down everything you will need for the coming week.
