Step 1
Set up your own website that will attract customers to your freelance writing services. The site should highlight your writing experience as well as showing off some of your published works. Some freelance writers place links to their works on their site and some copy full articles onto the site to make it easier for potential clients to see them. Either way is acceptable.
-
Step 2
Try one or more freelance writing bidding sites. One such site is RentaCoder. The site has no membership fees and there are no limits on how many bids can be made. Elance, another freelance bidding site, has a small monthly fee that provides a set number of bids. Guru works similarly to Elance and has similar fees. All of these sites have freelance writing jobs that are posted by various clients looking for writers to post proposals and bids for the jobs. Some clients want the best price, some want the writer with the most experience and some want a combination of both.
-
Step 3
Go to a speciality site such as ProBlogger or MediaBistro. These sites are devoted to media and communications and they each have pages devoted to job listings in those fields. ProBlogger concentrates on blogging jobs while MediaBistro has a variety of writing and blogging jobs available.
-
Step 4
Check out one of the many content companies that hire freelance writers. Suite101, Need an Article and many others hire freelance writers regularly to write about whatever they have a need for. WiseGeek and Demand Studios hire writers periodically.
