A swag lamp is a hanging lamp that has a chain or cord attached to the ceiling in at least two places, giving the cord a swag. If you need to wire a swag lamp, the process is fairly simple as long as you have a circuit box at the spot on the ceiling where you want to connect the lamp wires. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the switch on the fuse box that runs to the room where you are wiring your swag lamp and to the room directly above that room.

    • 2

Check that the two wires coming out of the circuit box to which you are going to wire your swag lamp are not frayed. If they are frayed, slice off the frayed portion with a pair of wire cutters to reveal unfrayed wires.

    • 3

Attach the fixture stud that came with your swag lamp. Attach the cross bar that will support your new lighting fixture. You are installing the fixture stud and cross bar because swag lamps are often heavy. You do not want to rely on the circuit box to support the weight.

    • 4

Connect the wires from the circuit box to the corresponding wires in your swag lamp by twisting them together. If your circuit box offers a place you can insert the wires and snap them into place, do that.

    • 5

Turn the electrical supply to the circuit box back on. Check your swag lamp to make sure it lights up.
