How to Build a Wooden Gun
The art of wood crafting is an age old technique that was commonly used by whittling with a knife on a piece of stick or branch. With today's modern tools, crafting complex designs and shapes has become commonplace, and an accessible trade to many. With the proper tools and the right wood, you can make your own wooden craft such as a gun.

1
Draw an outline of the gun on your piece of wood. Make sure the markings are dark enough to see, as you will be handling with challenging equipment. A misstep on your wood cutting equipment may prove hazardous.
-
2
Cut your wood with the proper woodcutting tools. The circular saw can be used for the straight lines, while the jig saw is used for the narrow curves and tiny edges. Use a whittling knife if a corner is too difficult to cut out with the jig saw. Wear safety goggles during this step.

3
Use the electric sander on your newly cutout piece of wood. This is to ensure that no splinters are left hanging on the surface of the carving. Use regular hand-held sandpaper to sand out the small edges unreachable by the electric sander.

4
Paint the wooden gun using coloring paint of your choosing. As you are dealing with a carved image of a weapon, color the toy unrealistically, especially if children are going to play with it.

Tips & Warnings
Buy a piece of wood, preferably by dimensions of 2 by 6 inches, at your local home improvement store. A bigger wood can help for a cleaner cut if you are not too skilled in using the proper wood cutting tools for smaller pieces. Brasswod, aspen and butternut are the best wood types to use, as they are soft and easy to carve.
