Light a Mobile Home Furnace

A mobile home furnace is different from furnaces used in a regular-sized home. Mobile home furnaces are built with a zero clearance. This means they are made so that their outer casing is in contact with flammable material. Because a mobile home has less space than a site-built home, the air conditioner might be installed directly into the furnace, using the same ducts. Lighting a mobile home furnace follows a similar procedure as with most other furnaces. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the gas supply line where the red override button is. Turn the knob to "Pilot".

    • 2

Push down the red override button. Hold it down for a minute to allow time for the thermocouple to warm up.

    • 3

Hold open the spring loaded door to gain access to the combustion chamber.

    • 4

Insert a lit, foot-long match into the combustion chamber of the furnace. Light the pilot. (A campfire butane lighter is also ideal for reaching the pilot in the back of the chamber.)

    • 5

Release the override button, and the pilot will remain lit.

Tips & Warnings

  • The pilot light in a mobile home furnace is set to run continually.

  • Furnaces are dangerous, so take precaution when working on one. They are designed with safety systems in place to prevent accidents. Do not tamper with these systems. While lighting your mobile home furnace, be aware of any draft that would blow your fire out.
