How to Make Wedding Flower Petal Toss Cones thumbnail
Invite your guests to shower you with flower petals.

Instead of tossing messy rice or blowing sticky bubbles after the wedding ceremony, give your guests beautiful flower petals to throw. You can make these lovely flower petal toss cones with just a few materials and a little time, and you can use paper that will match any wedding's color scheme. Distribute your flower petal toss cones to your guests by placing them in baskets near the doors to your wedding venue.

Instructions

    • 1

Place one sheet of paper on your work surface with one of the 8 1/2-inch edges facing you. Place a 2-inch piece of double-sided tape on the underside of the paper, lengthwise along the edge and near the middle of the paper. Place another 2-inch piece of double-sided tape on the 11-inch edge on the left, but place this piece on the top side of the paper. Place this piece lengthwise along the edge near the top of the page.

    • 2

Roll the bottom right corner in towards the upper left corner, making sure a point is forming at the bottom left corner. Press the first piece of tape onto the paper with one hand inside the cone. Continue rolling the cone until it meets the second piece of tape. Press the tape gently to ensure the tape adheres, again with one hand inside the cone.

    • 3

Use your scissors to trim the top of the cone. Use scrapbooking scissors or pinking shears for a decorative edge.

    • 4

Fill the cone with flower petals until it is almost completely full.

    • 5

Place the cone upright in a basket.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice making these cones out of scrap paper before you use the paper you've chosen for your wedding, as it might take a bit of practice to avoid crushing the cone.

  • You can make your cones with flat ends rather than pointed ends. Fold over the pointed end and tape it into place using a small piece of double-sided tape.

  • Fresh rose petals can be ordered from florists, but you can use any fresh flower petals you have.

  • You can make the cones ahead of time and fill them on the morning of the wedding.

  • Make sure the baskets you use for the cones are deep enough for the cones to stand upright in.

  • Some wedding venues will not allow guests to throw rice or flower petals, so check with your venue before your wedding to be sure.
